Dr. Maiti is a plant molecular biologist experienced in biotechnology and plant genetic engineering. Dr. Maiti received a Ph.D. and M.S. in biochemistry from the University of Calcutta, as well as B.S. in physics and mathematics (honors in chemistry). He has more than 30 years of research experience. His research during the last seven years has resulted in seven U.S. patent applications (four issued and three pending at this time). These inventions of plant genetic engineering tools are being licensed to agricultural biotechnology companies, will have future commercial value.
Dr. Maiti manages the Plant Genetic Engineering Services group at KTRDC, which is responsible for designing and testing vectors and genetic elements useful for enhanced expression of single and multiple genes in plants. The group also develops transgenic plants for collaborators who wish to test the efficacy of novel genes in the plant environment. Dr. Maiti's group is currently working with genes for
insect-, herbicide-, and disease-resistance.
